Seattle Give City SC Its Second Straight Loss

After a historical start to the 2023 Major League Soccer season, St. Louis City SC suffered their second straight loss of the season, from the hands of the Seattle Sounders 3-0 at Lumen Field Saturday Night. With loss the Sounders move ahead of City SC in the Western Conference after starting 5-0 in their inaugural season.

Seattle scored the first goal on the 64th minute of the second half when midfielder Josh Atencio let loose with a kick that sailed past City SC Goalie Roman Burki 1-0 in front of 31,789 fans attending the match. Then Long-time Sounders Veteran Raul Ruidiaz scored on the 71th minute of the match to extend the lead to 2-0 and finally City SC defender Jake Nerwinski scored an own goal sealed the victory for the Sounders 3-0.

Towards the end of the first half City SC had a chance to take the lead of the game but couldn’t capitalize some of the Sounders defensive breakdown and costly bad passes. City SC had a total of 6 shots in the first half while Seattle dominated the ball with a 62% possession. City SC will host FC Cincinnati at City Park
