Jacob DeGrom wishes he could get the run support Jack Flaherty does.
When Flaherty starts, the Cardinals have scored five-plus runs in each of his six starts, scored 61 runs in the games that he’s started, and they have scored 49 runs while Flaherty was still in each game, the most for any pitcher in Major League Baseball.
It was 4-0 St. Louis before Flaherty even threw a single pitch.
It started when Paul DeJong hit a three-run home run to make it 3-0.
Tommy Edman continues to be the hottest player in the Cardinals lineup, notching four hits on the evening. Less than a full month into the season, Edman already has 29 hits on the season, and statistically, the Cardinals overall thrive more when Edman gets on base.
Meanwhile, Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado went a combined 6-for-8 with four RBI’s.
Back to Flaherty, now.
After two weeks of struggling to go deep into games, the Cardinals’ starting rotation has finally settled into place. Flaherty went six innings, struck out nine batters, while only allowing three runs. The bullpen, which featured Jordan Hicks, Genesis Cabrera, Giovanny Gallegos, and Kodi Whitley, only allowed two runs the rest of the way.
With the 12-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, it marks yet another series win for the Cardinals, who have been on a hot streak as of late, after a sluggish start to the season.
