Former Houston Texans safety Justin Reid intends to sign a three-year, $31.5 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The deal includes $20 million guaranteed, the source said.
Reid, a third-round pick out of Stanford in 2018, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with Houston. While in Houston, he was a part of their top secondary for multiple seasons. He was one of the Texans’ best defensive backs in 2021, finishing the final season of his rookie deal with two interceptions, a forced fumble and four passes defended in 13 games.
Reid, who turned 24 in February, missed one game, however, because he was benched for violating team rules.
With the signing of Reid, it looks like the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for the future without defensive leader Tyrann Mathieu. The 29-year old safety is set to hit the free agent market, and it looks like the Chiefs don’t plan to bring him back.
