The long-awaited update on the health of catcher Yadier Molina has arrived.

According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, Molina is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment the last week of July. The hope here is that he will return to the lineup in the first week of August.

On June 17th, the Cardinals placed Molina on the injured list. The 39-year old catcher has been battling knee soreness this year and was originally scheduled to be sidelined for “at least a few weeks, according to manager Oliver Marmol.

The St. Louis Cardinals have had a rough past couple of weeks, both defensively and offensively. The sooner they get Molina, one of the best defensive catchers of all-time, back behind the plate, the better things will be.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
