After a heartbreaking road loss to ring in the new year, the St. Louis Ambush faced off against their MASL East rival Milwaukee Wave looking for something to cheer for at the Family Arena.
But the Wave had other plans in mind.
Less than four minutes into the game, Mario Alvarez shot one right past goalie Paulo Nascimento to give Milwaukee an early 1-0 lead. St. Louis struggled to keep the ball out of their own zone throughout the first, giving the Wave ample opportunities to score. However, aside from their early goal, they could not capitalize.
Once again, Milwaukee scored early in the second period, this time a side shot by Derek Huffman on an assist from Marcio Leite. The Ambush were able to put more offensive pressure on Milwaukee, but still were held scoreless throughout the second. Two fouls in a sequence of 30 seconds worth of action sent two Wave players to the penalty box. Despite that, nothing came of it.
Sounding like a broken record is never fun. But in this instance, it’s what we have to do.
Andre’ Haynes shot one right past Paulo Ameldina, putting the Ambush in quite the tough spot. And it only got worse from there, as they would fall to the Wave 8-2.
It was without a doubt the worst loss of the season for the Ambush, who now are 2-1 at home on the year.
