Big changes are happening in the SEC.

Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker is expected to sign with the LSU Tigers to become their next DC, per sources.

Baker emerged as a top candidate for the LSU opening on Thursday after helping Missouri put together an impressive 2023 season. The Tigers ranked No. 5 in the SEC in total defense, holding teams to 336.1 yards per game. They were also ranked 34th in the nation in total defense.

LSU, on the other hand, allowed 416.6 yards per game, which ranked 13th in the SEC, and gave up 35 points five times in 13 games.

The surprise in all of this? Baker just signed a contract extension with Mizzou TWO WEEKS ago.

Baker’s recently signed contract was for three years and an average of $2 million per year. He would have been paid $1.9 million in 2024, which would have put him in the top five of highest-paid assistants in college football. The contract called for a $100,000 raise in each season, meaning he would have made $2.1 million in the final year of the deal in 2026.

Per sources, the buyout LSU will owe Missouri for hiring him will be around $950,000..
