The Cardinals are signing shortstop Brandon Crawford, reports Katie Woo of the Athletic. Earlier today, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle put the two sides and noted that a deal could come together quickly.
The deal is pending a physical, and contract details are not specifically known at this time.
Crawford, 37, has been a fixture in San Francisco for over a decade. Crawford was drafted by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB Draft and would solidify himself as the team’s starter roughly three years later. He went on to have a 13-year career and played a massive role helping the Giants to World Series titles in 2012 and ’14.
He won three consecutive Gold Glove awards in 2015-17 and took a step forward with bat in his late-20s. He earned a Silver Slugger in 2015 and had increased offensive production in six of the eight seasons between 2014-21.
Crawford has established himself as one of the top defensive infielders of the past 15 years, now provides veteran leadership for the St. Louis Cardinals.
