The reigning Super Bowl champions are adding some explosive firepower on offense, giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes a dangerous receiving threat.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Kansas City is signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a free agent contract. It’s a one-year deal worth up to $11 million. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reports that the deal’s base price is $7M.

Brown, who turns 27 in June, has had a mixed career up to this point. A 2019 first-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens, Brown reached his peak in 2021 when he hauled in 91 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. He was later traded to the Arizona Cardinals, spending two years in the desert. In those seasons combined, he posted a stat line of 118 receptions, 1,283 yards and seven scores in 26 games. 

Brown is a smaller receiver than a lot of teams’ top receivers, but he has exceptional speed and he is a better route runner than he gets credit for.

He now joins a receiver group that includes Rashee Rice, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore, as well as tight end Travis Kelce.
