City SC scored their first win of the season with a convincing 3-0 over the defending Major League Soccer Champion LA Galaxy. Cedric Teuchert scored the first goal of the match in the 44th minute. Four minutes into the second half, Marcel Hartel received a stunning long pass and battled past an LA defender to put the ball in the back of the net to give City SC a 2-0 lead. Simon Becher, who came off the bench in minute 62, sealed the deal by scoring the match’s final goal to give City SC a well-deserved victory after going scoreless in their first two matches of their 2025 Major League Soccer season.
City SC goalie Roman Bürki made eight saves and scored his 18th career shutout, preventing every scoring attempt by the injury-depleted Galaxy, who were without star playmaker Riqui Puig and Joseph Paintsil. The loss of both Puig and Paintsil has played a huge role in the Galaxy’s slow start and the team’s inability to muster any offense for the defending League champions. With the loss, LA Galaxy became the first reigning MLS champions to lose the first three matches of the season. For City SC, their victory was well needed after two lackluster performances against Colorado in which they dominated and were lucky to come out with a draw against the expansion San Diego FC. They play Saturday Night against their nemeses Seattle Sounders FC at home while The Galaxy hopes to end their losing streak against the Portland Timbers.
