Philadelphia Union handed City SC its first loss of the season Saturday Night in Chester, Pennsylvania 1-0. It’s the first meeting between the two clubs, but the first time City has seen the new Union head coach Bradley Carnel who led City to the playoffs in their inaugural 2023 season, but the team’s slow start to 2024 cost him his job with the club. Ian Glavinovich scored his first career goal early in the 8th minute to give the Union a 1-0. City SC dominated the possession in the first half but found themselves trailing for the first time heading into the locker room all season.
Philadelphia Goalie Andrew Rick, who filled in for veteran Andre Blake, kept City SC scoreless with one save in the match. Ben Lundt made his second straight start, for injured starter Roman Bürki finished with a career-high nine saves for City SC. City SC had an opportunity in the second half but in the 66th minute midfielder, Eduard Löwen was tagged with a second yellow card the match after receiving one in the 55th, leaving the team a man down. Philly kept City SC shut down and only managed six shots, with only one of those shots on goal. City SC will have a chance to rebound on Sunday afternoon when City hosts Austin FC. They’ll be doing so without Eduard Löwen, who will be suspended for the match following his red card Saturday night
