City SC fell Sunday Night against the Columbus Crew 2-1 at Energizer Park. Joao Klauss stunned the visiting Columbus in the 7th when he scored, giving his team a 1-0 lead and his first goal of the season. St. Louis held on to the lead until Columbus got right back in the game with the Crew’s Steven Moreira scoring his first goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1. Steven Moreira’s goal was assisted by Max Arfsten, who made a brilliant cross to Moreira and used a one-touch to score. Then in the 55th minute of the match, veteran Diego Rossi recorded his team-leading fifth goal of the regular season, giving the Crew a 2-1 lead. CIty SC had several attempts to level the match, including Klauss meeting the back of the net again, but was ultimately called offside.
Then, in the 72nd minute, Simon Becher snagged a bad pass by Columbus inside the box. Unfortunately, his left-footed shot went wide. On paper, City SC matched Columbus 12 shots to their 13, with six of CITY’s being on target against the Crew’s five. But they weren’t able to put the ball in the back of the net. The injury woes continued for City SC when Josh Yaro made contact with the ball, fell to the ground, he stayed until medical staff reached him. He briefly came back on the field only to pull out, and was replaced minutes later by Akil Watts took over. Yaro joined the list of injured CITY players that included eight players with Rasmus Alm, Roman Bürki, Chris Durkin, Jannes Horn, Joakim Nilsson, Jay Reid, and Tomas Totland all listed as out for injury before the match on Sunday. After starting 2-0-2 City SC has lost their 4th straight game and are in 11th place in the Western Conference. They’ll play against the Vancouver Whitecaps, who sit on top of the Western Conference Saturday Night at Energizer Park.
