CITY SC had no answer in St. Paul, Minnesota, as Minnesota United FC handed them their record winless streak to 10 games with a 3-0 victory Saturday Night. CITY midfielder Conrad Wallem did give some home earlier in the 21st minute of the match when Minnesota goalie Dayne St. Clair saved a shot from Wallem’s right foot. 12 minutes later, Tani Oluwaseyi flicked in a back-heel shot from point-blank range to open the scoring in the 33rd minute to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead. It was Tani’s first goal for his team since April 6th in a win against New York City FC.
Oluwaseyi was back at it again with an assist when he tapped a pass back to Joaquín Pereyra in the 62nd minute to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead. Julian Gressel, who was recently picked up from waivers by Inter Miami at the end of April, scored his first goal with the club after supping in for Bongokuhle Hlongwane in the 76th minute, giving Minnesota a 3-0 lead, and the team never looked back. Roman Bürki had four saves for CITY SC in his second game back from a two-month absence due to a fracture in his hand suffered at practice on March 14, while his counterpart Dayne St. Clair had 3 saves in the match and registered seven shutouts this season for Minnesota. CITY SC will play again against Minnesota at St. Paul, this time in a U.S. Open tournament, and hopes to bounce back after a very difficult loss Saturday Night.
