The Diamondbacks’ trade deadline sell-off continues as they’re trading veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Royals, according to a report from Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that right-hander Andrew Hoffmann is headed to Arizona in exchange for Grichuk’s services.
John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Phoenix reports that Hoffmann, who is already on the 40-man roster, will be assigned to Triple-A Reno by the Diamondbacks once the trade becomes official. Both teams subsequently announced the trade.
The trade reunites Grichuk, 34, with his former St. Louis Cardinal teammate, Royals starter Michael Wacha.
In 69 games for the D-backs this season, Grichuk batted .243 and had 22 RBIs, 23 extra-base hits and 10 walks. He played all three outfield positions and was primarily a designated hitter (39 games).
He hit .276 with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs in 176 games with the D-backs since first signing as a free agent in February 2024.
