Perhaps the most shocking trade in the young history of St. Louis City SC, team traded fan favorite Eduard Lowen to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for $425,000 in GAM funds and another $500,000 in GAM add-ons. Löwen, a 29-year-old midfielder from Germany native, is a fan favorite ever since he played in the inaugural season in 2023. He received a warm welcome from his former team and Major League Soccer after the passing over his wife Ilona from cancer.

Prior to signing with City SC in 2022, Löwen played four seasons in the Bundesliga, amassing seven goals and eight assists in 80 league. He scored the first goal in its first-ever home opener for St. Louis March 2023. He had 20 goals and 27 assists in 84 regular-season matches over four years with St. Louis.

“From the moment I arrived, this city and club welcomed me and my family with open arms,” said Löwen. “I’ve had the privilege of experiencing some unforgettable moments here — moments I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. St. Louis will be at home Sunday against FC Dallas.
