St. Louis City wins its first ever Trophy over the Columbus Crew on Penalty kicks following a 0-0 draw in the 2026 U.S. Open Cup final on Wednesday Night. It was pretty and there were several occasions that Columbus had a chance to win their first U.S. Open title since 2002 but St. Louis goalie Roman Bürki came up big with some good saves in the game.

The a scary scene happened in the second half when Burki took a knee in the head while making a save. He was taken off on a stretcher to a nearby hospital. Backup goalkeeper Ben Lundt entered the game as play resumed and came up big during penalty shootouts.

Timo Baumgartl put the first point on the board for St. Louis with a 1-0 lead on the first penalty kick and then Goalie Ben Lundt dove to get a hand on Santiago Rodriguez’s shot that deflected off the post.

St. Louis was perfect going 5 for 5 in the shootout as Lukas MacNaughton, Chris Durkin and Damion Downs scored while Daniel Edelman scored the winning goal to give his team its first Major Soccer Trophy.

With the victory St. Louis earned a spot in the 2027 CONCACF Champions Cup and join a list past St. Louis soccer teams that have won the U.S. Open Cup title which is the first since 1988, when St Louis Busch Seniors beat San Francisco-based Greek-American AC and the 11th for a St. Louis base soccer club. St. Louis resume their final stretch of their Major League Soccer regular season when they face Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
