Heading into the off-season, the biggest priority for the St. Louis Cardinals was boosting their starting pitching.

They’ve just made a big step in doing so.

Per Ken Rosenthal, the Cardinals signed left-handed starter Steven Matz to a four-year deal worth $44 million. With incentives included, Matz would have the chance to earn over $48 mil. in total.

Matz, 30, is coming off the best season of his career. With the Blue Jays, he went 14-7 with a 3.82 ERA, as well as 144 strikeouts over 150 innings pitched.

This is a developing story…

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
