A tale of two Missouri State Sports Team

Early this season things were riding high for the Missouri State Bears Football program after starting 2-0 and were on the verge of pulling off the biggest upsets in School History when they were up by 27-17 against Arkansas, who were ranked in the top 10 in the beginning of the College Football Season. Arkansas scored 21 un-answer points to beat the Bears 38-27. Since that game, the Bears have lost 5 consecutive games including a must win game against North Iowa 41-20 on Saturday and are mathematically eliminated from the NCAA College Football Championship Sub-division playoffs. Meantime the Missouri State Men’s Soccer team have kept their foot on the gas ever since they lost their first match of the season against Tulsa 3-0. The team is currently on a 5-game winning streak with one draw which happened against Belmont on Sunday.

So, what happened to the MSU Bears Football team? Was the last two season’s a when the team won the Missouri Valley Football Conference title in the Spring of 2021 and made again in the Fall a fluke? Did we expected too much on a team that at one point were ranked in the top 5? There were many key injuries that did the team in this season but it’s hard to believe the players they have on their roster from last year’s post-season would crash this hard and getting blown out in their last 4 games. While the Football team have once again falling on hard times, everything seems to go right for the MSU Bears Soccer and with their current record of 9-1-3 and are undefeated in the Missouri Valley Conference record 5-0-1 the team is in the mist of winning the Missouri Valley Conference regular season for the 4th consecutive time this season. In their recent 0-0 against Belmont, the team set a record by recording their ninth shutout this season and are currently ranked 16th in the NCAA top 25 soccer ranking. While the dreams of the MSU Football Bears NCAA playoff run is over, there’s hope for another Missouri State Bears team and while the Men’s soccer team doesn’t get the major head lines right now, Bears fans in Springfield, Missouri should focus their support as the as they make their push on winning the school’s first National Title.
