For St. Louis, they needed a big bounce back win.
And that’s exactly what they got.
Thanks to Jordan Binnington, who turned in one of his best performances (stopping 31 of 32 shots), the Blues defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1. It was the 2,000th victory in Blues franchise history. The Blues were just 6-11-1 against teams from the Eastern Conference prior to Monday’s victory, and have had much better luck against non-playoff teams than otherwise.
The effort was better for the Senators, but the club still came away empty-handed. Only Tim Stutzle was able to score for the Senators, who have lost four of their past five games. Stutzle’s 19th goal of the season narrowed the Blues’ lead to 2-1 with 6:08 left in the second period.
But Binnington was locked in. He let nothing past his way the remainder of the game, and goals from Noel Acardi and Jake Neighbours were all the team needed.
And now the Blues will look to build off of this all-around team victory.
