Lionel Messi to Join Inter Miami of Major League Soccer

After months of speculation as to what his plans were after playing for Paris St. Germain of the French Ligue 1, Lionel Messi has decided to take his talents to South Beach in Miami and play in Major League Soccer for Inter Miami. It was widely believed that he would choose to play for Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia and take on against his long rival Christino Renaldo, who played against in the Spanish LaLiga in Spain, when he played for FC Barcelona while Renaldo played for Real Madrid. In the end Messi he made the decision on Wednesday to play for Miami in Major League Soccer. Messi will be the highest global soccer star to play in Major League Soccer since David Beckham move to the League to play for the L.A. Galaxy 2007.

” After winning the World Cup and not being able to return to FC Barcelona, it was my turn to go to the league of the United States to live football in another way” Messi said. He will also be the fifth highest paid athlete in America and will also have an ownership stake for Inter Miami. Messi’s move to Major League Soccer will boost the leagues profile and will help ticket sales for all teams in the league whenever his club takes field on the road. He could take the field when Inter Miami plays on the road against St. Louis City SC on July 15. Messi has 800 goals during his 17 years season has a professional soccer player and last year’s World Cup title under his belt. He is widely considered one of the most accomplished soccer player of all-time, rivaling the late Brazilian Soccer Legend Pele and his move to Major League Soccer could make the league among the top soccer leagues in the world.
