Jordan Walker’s bases-loaded triple sparks the Cardinals to a comeback victory

In a battle of cellar-dwellers, rookie Jordan Walker hit a bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals rallied for a 7-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

“It’s a learning curve,” Walker said. “I’ve been in those situations before and didn’t come through.”Walker’s first career triple capped a four-run seventh. “When he comes through, it’s exciting to see,” St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol said. “Hopefully, we’ll see a lot more.”

Miles Mikolas rolled through four shutout frames before Oakland broke up the shutout in the fifth inning. It was the first time he allowed more than two earned runs in an outing since July 22 and his season ERA climbed to a surprisingly staggering 4.27.

Mikolas had issued just two walks over his previous seven outings, posting a 3.28 ERA during that stretch.

His next outing is projected to be at home against the Mets.
