Giovanny Gallegos went from being one of the best relievers in the NL, to one of the worst.

And it’s not getting any better.

Entering Sunday, Gallegos allowed nine earned runs in his past nine innings pitched in the 2024 season. And in a game where the Cardinals needed him to pitch well more than ever, he couldn’t have pitched much worse. Gallegos entered a 1-1 game against the White Sox, and three batters later, he exited the game with the Cardinals trailing 3-1.

He allowed two doubles and a home run as the White Sox eventually beat the Cardinals 5-1.

In Gallegos past 2 appearances he’s allowed 7 earned runs. In those 2 appearances he hasn’t recorded an out. His velocities have dipped severely on both his four-seamer and his slider.

But Gallegos is just one of the many players struggling for St. Louis. Twenty four hours ago, the White Sox had one (1) road win on the season. Now they have three. The Cardinals are near the bottom in most hitting categories, and save for a couple relievers, the bullpen is rough.

It’s time to make serious changes.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
