If St. Louis had any hope to clinch homefield advantage for the XFL Conference Championship game they will have to doing in their season end match on June 1st against the San Antonio Brahmas after losing on the road against the Arlington Renegades 36-22. Manny Wilkins, who filled in for A.J. McCarron for the second week in a row was picked off three times including the game clincher when form Battlehawks defensive back Joe Powell returned 45-yard touchdown with 1:40 minutes left in the game.
St. Louis took the lead in the 3rd quarter Wilkins scrambled 7 yards for a Battlehawks touchdown, the one-point conversion attempt failed, to make the score 21-19 for St. Louis. But then Arlington quarterback Luis Perez rallied his team back on top with a 5-yard touchdown back to Wide Receiver Seth Green to put his team back on top 27-21. The Renegades extended the lead to 30-21 after Jonathon Garibay kicked a 26 yard early in the fourth quarter. St. Louis was still in striking distance but Quarterback Manny Wilkins who was pressured throughout much of the game and threw for 179 yards committed his third interception of the game that was ran back by Renegades defensive back Joe Powell to seal the game.
St. Louis did score an extra point off an interception that was returned by Battlehawks’ defensive back Keylon Kennedy who returned the ball all the way to the Arlington end zone, to score the point for the Battlehawks to end the score of 36-22. There were several bright spots for St. Louis as both Manny Wilkins and running back Jacob Saylors combine for over 154 yards with Saylors rushing for 104 yards will Wilkins score to rushing touchdowns and 51 yards on the ground. St. Louis fell to 6-3 and while the team have already clinched a playoff, they must defeat the San Antonio Brahmas to get home field advantage on Saturday at 3pm. in their season finally at the Dome at America’s Center
