Former Missouri running back Cody Schrader was just selected by the Saint Louis Battlehawks in todays UFL College Draft.
Schrader went undrafted in this years NFL Draft and was picked up by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent.
Because he was not exclusively drafted by an NFL team, he was eligible to be drafted into the UFL. The Battlehawks have Schrader’s UFL rights, as do the 49ers (to a certain extent) in the NFL.
He will now have two options, both appealing, to further his professional career for the upcoming 2024 football season.
Schrader was one-of-five NFL players selected in the first 13 picks. The other included Jason Bean, No. 1 overall to Memphis (Indianapolis Colts), John Rhys Plumlee, No. 3 overall to Arlington (Pittsburgh Steelers), Blake Watson, No. 9 overall to Memphis (Denver Broncos), and Kedon Slovis, No. 12 overall to D.C. (Indianapolis Colts).
Schrader came onto the scene out of nowhere last year for the Tigers, rushing for 1,627 yards and 14 touchdowns in his senior campaign.
He also racked up a number of accolades as a result of his excellence season, winning the 2023 Burlsworth Trophy Winner, being named a Doak Walker Award Finalist, and being named 2023 First-Team All-American by the AP and CBS Sports/247 Sports.
During the 2022 season, he rushed for 745 yards and 9 touchdowns.
One of his most notable games of the season came against Tennessee, a 36-7 Mizzou victory. He totaled 321 yards of offense on the ground and in the air.
His breakout season led to him finishing 7th overall in the Heisman voting.
