Never before in the history of the NFL has a team won three Super Bowls in a row. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs will now look to become the first.
The stout defense, which had been the main reason they finished with a 15-2 regular season record, got the one stop they needed most inside of the two-minute warning and Kansas City held on for a memorable 32-29 win in the AFC Championship on Sunday night in Kansas City.
A Kansas City blitz on fourth down forced Bills quarterback Josh Allen into rushing a fourth-down throw, which ended up falling incomplete to tight end Dalton Kincaid and the Chiefs took over on downs.
It was another classic playoff matchup between the Chiefs and Bills. In what has become the modern-day “Brady-Manning”, the “Allen-Mahomes” rivalry has emerged as the most intriguing and entertaining in all of football. Especially come playoff time.
But Buffalo once again fell short against the essential kings of the AFC. Allen overcame early jitters to give the Bills a second-half lead, and the aforementioned final drive could have been a Bills dream come true. Instead, their worst nightmare reappeared as they yet again head into the offseason asking “what could have been?”.
