City SC’s offensive struggles continue as the club loses its third straight match against I-70 rival Sporting Kansas City 2-0 on Saturday Night at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The team dominated the first half of the match and nearly took the lead in the 16 minute when Conrad Wallem took a pass from Joao Klauss and his shot from the right wing hit the inside of the left goal post which the ball deflected across the front of the goal, but no City SC players were in a position to redirect the ball in the back of the net.
City lost another player due to injury when Joakim Nilsson went down with an apparent hamstring injury midway through the first half. Meanwhile, Sporting KC, was looking to rebound under new coach Kerry Zavagnin who placed long-time legendary coach Peter Vermes who was fired after the team went through a 13th-game winless streak. Dejan Joveljic scored for Sporting KC in the 71st minute from assists from Manu García and Nemanja Radoja to give the team 1-0.
Joveljic put the game out of reach when he scored unassisted off a carom in the 88th to seal the deal to give his team a 2-0 victory by extending City SC’s losing streak to 3 games. The Club has also conceded as many goals as it had through the first six matches in the loss after they had clean sheets in its first four matches and have gone scoreless for 345 minutes under first-year manager Olof Mellberg. For Sporting KC they ended one of the longest losing streak in their franchise history and hope to extend their winning streak when they host Portland, Sunday while City SC next match is Sunday at 6 p.m. at Energizer Park against the Columbus Crew.
