Octavio Dotel, a well-traveled reliever who spent time with 13 different MLB organizations during his 15-year career, has tragically passed away after a roof collapsed at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic. Initial reports noted that Dotel had been found beneath the rubble but updates noted that he died while being transported to the hospital. While reports are constantly being updated, there are over 100 people who were injured with at least another 40 being killed in the accident. Dotel was 51 years old.

Dotel was an integral piece of the 2011 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals’ bullpen after coming over from Toronto in a major deadline deal that saw Colby Rasmus and others heading back to the Blue Jays. The righty appeared in 29 games for the Cardinals, tallying two saves and 32 strikeouts in his 24.2 innings. He was even better in the postseason, taking the ball in 12 of the team’s 18 games and tallied 14 strikeouts in that span.

After his stay in St. Louis, Dotel played two more season in the majors, finishing out his career with the Detroit Tigers as a 39-year-old. Over his 15-year career, Dotel finished with a cumulative 3.78 ERA and 109 saves spanning over 951 innings.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
