The Kansas City Royals have re-signed startling pitcher Seth Lugo to a two-year contract extension, worth $46 million. The contract includes a vesting option for 2028, worth $17 million or a $3 million buyout. Lugo, 35, is currently 7-5 with a 2.95 ERA, 19 games, 19 starts, 113 innings, 99 strikeouts, 33 walks, and a whip of 1.09.
Lugo had his best season in 2024. That season, Lugo was an All-Star and was 16-9 with a 3.00 ERA, 33 games, 33 starts, 1 complete game, 206.2 innings, 181 strikeouts, 48 walks, and a whip of 1.09. The wins, starts, complete games, innings, and strikeouts were all career highs for Lugo.
In 2019, with the New York Mets, Lugo had career highs in games (61), holds (21), and saves (6).
Overall, Lugo is currently in his 10th MLB season. Lugo is 63-45 with a 3.33 ERA, 353 games, 116 starts, 62 holds, 16 saves, 1 complete game, 960.2 innings, 928 strikeouts, 254 walks, and a whip of 1.15.
