The Chiefs entered Monday as one of the teams projected to be over the cap, and defensive end Mike Danna was recently named as a cut candidate.

The veteran pass rusher was released on Monday, per a team announcement.

One year remained on Danna’s contract, but none of his scheduled base salary for 2026 was guaranteed.

As a result, this move will free up $8.94MM in cap space. Kansas City will take on a dead money charge of just $2.17MM with this release.

He will become a free agent after six seasons with the Chiefs, which featured four AFC Titles and two Super Bowl victories.

In all, Danna totaled 49 starts during the regular season, with most coming in the past three seasons. During that span, he saw his production steadily  decline, and his playing time decreased.
