As St. Louis City SC heads out west to play against San Diego FC, the club announced that they have extended the contracts of midfielder Chris Durkin and forward Simon Becher to a contract extension through June 2028. In addition to signing the two veterans, the club also announced that they’ve added Mamadou Mbacke, who signed for City at the end of January, and Venezuelan international striker Sergio Cordova.

Chris Durkin joined the team via a trade from D.C. United in 2024. He has recorded 1g/6a in 55 appearances since joining St. Louis City SC. He represented the United States at multiple youth levels, including starting four matches at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“He’s a reliable presence in midfield and brings a strong work ethic, professionalism, and leadership that are invaluable to our group, said St. Louis CITY’s sporting director Chris Way. While we always want to bring in talented players, it means a lot to us to have players who are here and want to continue with our club.”

Simon Becher, who had a great performance Saturday against Charlotte FC, originally joined St. Louis on loan from Danish side AC Horsens midway through the 2024 season before signing permanently last year. Becher played his college ball at Saint Louis University and scored 21 goals and 47 assists. He was selected 16th overall (first round) by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. He scored seven goals in 25 appearances with the Whitecaps and helped Vancouver win the 2023 Canadian Cup. Since arriving in St. Louis, Becher has recorded 15 goal contributions (9g/6a) in 48 appearances across all competitions.

As for new players, Mamadou Mbacke and Sergio Cordova, they hope to see action this Sunday against San Diego FC. Mbacke is a 23-year-old Senegalese defender who joins City SC from Spain, where he played for Barcelona’s second team. While Sergio Cordova has played in MLS in 2022 and 2023, netting 15 goals in 61 appearances for Real Salt Lake and the Vancouver Whitecaps.  The game against San Diego starts Sunday at 8:15 pm.
