The Cardinals game back to beat the Guardians 6-5 in extra innings on Tuesday night and ended a three-game losing streak. Ivan Herrera tied the game 1-1 with his 1st home run in the bottom 1st. In the bottom 3rd, JJ Wetherholt hit his 2nd home run to tie the game 2-2.
Wetherholt hit a two-run home run (2nd of the game) in the bottom 8th to make it a 5-4 Guardians lead.
In the bottom 9th with 2 outs, Masyn Winn reached first base by a throwing error on Juan Brito. Winn then reached second base on a wild pitch from Cade Smith. Yohel Pozo then got an RBI’s double scoring Winn and tied the game 5-5.
In the bottom 10th, Thomas Saggese the ghost runner reached third base on a wild pitch from Tim Herrin. Nathan Church hit a sac fly to rightfield to give the Cardinals a 6-5 walk-off win.
Riley O’Brien picked up the win (2-0). The Cardinals are now 9-8. The Cardinals on the season 5-0 in one run games and 4-0 in extra innings. The Cardinals are 7-0 in comeback wins.
The Cardinals will go for series win on Wednesday afternoon at 12:15 pm. The pitching matchup is Slade Cecconi (0-2), 5.74 ERA, 15.2 innings, 14 strikeouts, 5 walks, and a whip of 1.21 vs Dustin May (1-2), 9.45 ERA, 13.1 innings, 11 strikeouts, 3 walks, and a whip of 1.80.
