The Battlehawks jumped up to 25-0 and held on to give Orlando its first loss of the season, 25-17. St. Louis used their running game to overcome two interceptions by quarterback Harrison Frost and hand the Storm and their former head coach, Anthony Becht, their first loss of the season. Running back Kylin James scored from one yard, though a missed extra point kept it 6-0 for the Battlehawks. Frost started a perfect 5-for-5 as the offense found early rhythm. Then Frost hit tight end James Bostic III with a leaping catch in the back of the end zone for his first touchdown of the season, doubling the Battlehawks’ lead to 12-0.
Meanwhile, the Battlehawk defense controlled the first half by holding Orlando to three possessions, ending in two punts and a fumble recovered by safety Trey Dean II. Punter Ryan Sanborn stepped in for the injured Tucker McCann by converting a 36-yard and a 40-yard field goal to push the score to 18-0. In the third quarter, after another turnover on downs from the Orlando Storm, running back Jarveon Howard broke a 31-yard run to put St. Louis back in the red zone. Frost took it himself for a 4-yard rushing touchdown, and Sanborn connected on the point after for a 25-0 lead for St. Louis.
But Orlando found new life after a late hit led to an ejection, and quarterback Jack Plummer connected with wide receiver Elijhah Badger on a 4-yard touchdown to get the Storm on the board. Then, Orlando’s special team stepped up when Konner Fox blocked the punt, setting his team up at the one, and Elijah Dotson finished it off on a one-yard touchdown, and suddenly the Storm was only down by 11 points, 25-14. In the fourth quarter Storm were able to climb back bringing the score to 25-17 after a 26-yard field goal from kicker Michael Lantz. The Storm elected for the alternative kickoff by converting the 4th and 12 from their own 28.
But the Battlehawk defense stopped Orlando deep in the St. Louis territory on a 4th and 13 yards at the 36-yard line. Harrison Frost was 20 of 31 passes for 185 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions. Wide receiver Steven McBride was the Battlehawks’ leading receiver with 4 receptions for 53 yards, while Jarveon Howard had 59 yards rushing on 12 carries. Linebacker Jordan Williams led the defense with six tackles, including one tackle for loss, and a pass broken up. The Battlehawks head into a short week, traveling to Louisville for a Thursday Night match-up at 7 pm.
