The Cardinals beat the Padres 6-0 on Friday night at Petco Park. Michael McGreevy (3-2) pitched 6 innings allowing 1 hit with 9 strikeouts, and 2 walks. The strikeouts were a career high for McGreevy. McGreevy also picked up his (5th) quality start. Overall, the Cardinals now have (13) quality starts.

The Cardinals scored all of their runs in the top 5th. Masyn Winn led off the inning with a base hit to center. Nathan Church then got an infield base hit. Cesar Prieto struck out. Victor Scott II walked to load the bases with 1 out.

JJ Wetherholt reached on an RBI base hit, which scored Winn, Church, and Scott II. Wetherholt was also able to score thanks to an error by Fernando Tatis Jr., making it 4-0 Cardinals.

Ivan Herrera then reached on an infield base hit. Alec Burleson hit a double to left field, which Herrera was able to make third. Nolan Gorman got an RBI base hit, which scored Herrera making it 5-0 Cardinals.

Winn hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Burleson, making it 6-0 Cardinals.

The last time the Cardinals had scored 6 runs in an inning in San Diego was on May 29, 1998 (the Cardinals won that game 8-3).

The Cardinals are now 23-15.

Game 3 is Saturday night at 6:45 pm. The scheduled starting pitchers are Dustin May (3-3), 5.15 ERA, 36.2 innings, 25 strikeouts, 9 walks, and a whip of 1.53 vs Randy Vasquez (3-1), 3.20 ERA, 39.1 innings, 36 strikeouts, 13 walks, and a whip of 1.17.
