The Cardinals beat the Athletics 5-4 on Thursday afternoon at Sutter Health Park. Michael McGreevy pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run (home run) with 3 strikeouts, and 1 walk. McGreevy picked up his 6th quality start. Overall, the Cardinals have 15 quality starts.

Victor Scott II hit a home run (2) in the top of the 5th inning to tie the game 1-1. Then in the top of the 6th innings, Jordan Walker hit a home run (12) to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. Masyn Winn got a base hit and was able to advance to 2nd on a throwing error by Jeff McNeil. Nolan Gorman got an RBI base hit, scoring Winn and gave the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom 7th, the Athletics were able to take a 4-3 lead.

In the top 9th, the Cardinals offense came back. Yohel Pozo got a lead off base hit, and Thomas Saggese pinch ran for him. JJ Wetherholt was hit by a pitch, which moved Saggese to 2nd. Ivan Herrera got an RBI base hit, to tie game 4-4. Walker then got an RBI double to score Wetherholt and gave the Cardinals a 5-4 lead.

Ryne Stanek picked up his (8th) hold.

Matt Svanson (1-1) picked up the win.

Riley O’Brien picked up his (13th) save.

The Cardinals are now 25-18.

The Cardinals are now 9-3 in one-run games.

The Cardinals also now have 12 comeback wins.

The Cardinals return to Busch Stadium for a 6-game home stand. The Cardinals will play the Kansas City Royals (Friday-Sunday) and then the Pittsburgh Pirates (Tuesday-Thursday).

The scheduled starting pitching matchups for the Royals series is

Michael Wacha (4-2), 2.63 ERA, 51.1 innings, 42 strikeouts, 17 walks, and a whip of 0.99 vs Dustin May (3-4), 4.85 ERA, 42.2 innings, 32 strikeouts, 11 walks, and a whip of 1.43.

Noah Cameron (2-2), 5.55 ERA, 35.2 innings, 32 strikeouts, 14 walks, and a whip of 1.63 vs Kyle Leahy (4-3), 4.31 ERA, 39.2 innings, 32 strikeouts, 17 walks, and a whip of 1.59.

Stephen Kolek (1-0), 6.75 ERA, 10.2 innings, 9 strikeouts, 3 walks, and a whip of 1.13 vs Andre Pallante (4-3), 4.46 ERA, 42.1 innings, 33 strikeouts, 19 walks, and a whip of 1.37.
