After an impressive 3-1 victory Wednesday Night against the LA Galaxy, St. Louis City secured a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids thanks to Tomas Ostrak, who scored his first goal this season in the 83rd minute. The Rapids, who were coming off a home victory over San Diego Wednesday night, were short-handed in the 12th minute of the match when Rob Holding was shown a straight red card and played a man down the rest of the way, his second straight game against St. Louis. That forced Colorado to play the rest of the night defensively and hoped to counter by forcing City SC with turnovers and have scoring opportunities.
St. Louis had 61% possession and outshot the Rapids 18-2, 3-0 on target. But still couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. That’s when Tomas Ostrak off a header assist from Tomas Totland, who earned his fourth assist across all competitions found the back of the net late in the 83rd minute found the back of the net to give his team their 4th straight victory and move into seventh place in the Western Conference with a 7-6-4 record and 25 points. Their next match will be against Real Salt Lake for the first time this season at Energizer Park on Saturday, August 1, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
