The Cardinals are struggling, the MLB Trade Deadline is this weekend, and shortstop Masyn Winn is not happy.

“We could win every game for the rest of the year, and [Chaim Bloom] would still trade guys,” said Winn in reference to the Cardinals’ POBO Chaim Blooms approach of making moves.

Following a 10-2 loss against the Cubs Tuesday at Busch Stadium, the Cardinals fell to below .500 for the first time this season following a surprisingly strong first half of the season.

St. Louis’ proposed willingness to sell is also matching with the reports about the team.

ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reported earlier this (Wednesday) morning that the Cardinals apparently will hear trade offers… on anyone except second baseman JJ Wetherholt and right fielder and 2026 Home Run Derby champion Jordan Walker.

“The Cardinals are willing to listen to offers on anybody on their big league roster not named Jordan Walker or JJ Wetherholt, sources told ESPN. That includes veteran outfielder Lars Nootbaar and All-Star designated hitter/catcher Ivan Herrera, who has drawn interest from at least the Yankees and Red Sox,” Castillo wrote. “Both clubs seek catching and offensive help. Herrera has caught only 40 games this season — and started 66 at DH — and grades out as a below-average catcher, but the right-handed hitter owns a career 121 OPS+.”

Also according to the report, closer Riley O’Brien and relief pitcher JoJo Romero have drawn “significant interest.”

“The cost for the 31-year-old O’Brien, a first-time All-Star this season, would be steep since he is under team control through 2030,” the insider said. “Stanek and Romero, however, are free agents after the season. The Yankees are among the clubs that have shown interest in the Cardinals relievers.”

The Cardinals aren’t exactly out of a playoff push, but the recent struggles have pushed them near the bottom of the National League Central division. They are 1-9 in their last 10 games, and the offense has fallen flat in most of the losses.

The young core of players will be crucial to the franchise’s success for years to come, but going out and getting established stars (or more youth) couldn’t hurt. Either way, keep your eyes glued in on the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend during the Trade Deadline.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
