Things looked promising in first quarter when the Missouri State was leading 14-0, painfully Southern Illinois scored 38 un-answer points to blow pass the Bears 38-21 and its fourth straight loss. Statistically the Bears completely dominated the first quarter by holding a 144-26 advantage in total yards. But No. 17 ranked Salukis scored 17 points in the 2nd quarter and took command in the 3rd quarter by scoring 21 points in route to an easy victory over the once top team in the Nation, the Missouri State Bears.

The Bears started the season at 2-0 and it looked like the team was going to contend for the National title this season but after nearly pulling off the season’s biggest upset in a loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks, the dream season has nose dive into a nightmare which saw them loss 3 straight losses against Missouri Valley Conference rivals against South Dakota, North Dakota and now Southern Illinois. The loss also puts them in serious danger in not making it to the post season. The Bears will have a much-needed bye week then will go on the road and play against Northern Iowa in a must win to keep their play off hopes alive. Their next home game will be against Western Illinois on homecoming weekend on October 28th.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
