Jordan Binnington suspended by NHL

Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington received a two-game suspension from the NHL Department of Player Safety on Thursday afternoon.Binnington received a match penalty for a scuffle with

Minnesota’s Ryan Hartman in the second period of Wednesday’s game and was also penalized for leaving the crease. Minnesota’s Marc-Andre Fleury also received a penalty for leaving the crease.

With Binnington out, the Blues have recalled goaltender Joel Hofer from the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds under emergency conditions.

In 40 games with Springfield this season, Hofer has posted a record of 22-14-4 with a 2.50 goals-against average, a .920 save-percentage and four shutouts.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Binnington will forfeit $64,864.86. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
