The Cardinals, White Sox and Dodgers have made a three-team trade that sends right-hander Erick Fedde from Chicago to St. Louis and infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman from St. Louis to Los Angeles, Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo of The Athletic report.

Prospects Jeral Perez, Alexander Albertus and Noah Miller are headed from L.A. to Chicago in the deal, per Bob Nightengale. Meanwhile, FanSided’s Robert Murray reports that outfielder Tommy Pham is headed back to St. Louis in the trade.

Overall, here’s the trade:

Dodgers receive: UTL Tommy Edman, RHP Michael Kopech

Cardinals receive: RHP Erick Fedde, OF Tommy Pham

White Sox receive: OF Miguel Vargas, 2B Jeral Perez, INF Alexander Albertus

Fedde, 31, has been extremely solid for the Sox this season in his return to MLB. In 121 2/3 innings in 2024, he’s pitched to a 3.11 ERA with only one unearned run allowed and a K/BB ratio of 3.18 across 21 starts for Chicago.

Fedde is owed the balance of a $7.5 million salary for 2024, and he’s under contract for 2025 at the same $7.5 million commitment.

Edman, meanwhile, has yet to play in the majors this season because of a slower-than-expected recovery from offseason wrist surgery.

Edman is a career .265/.319/.408 hitter with a 99 wRC+. The switch-hitter has a career 117 wRC+ against left-handed pitching and 93 wRC+ against right-handers. Over the previous three seasons, Edman averaged 12 home runs, 32 doubles, and 30 stolen bases in 150 games, totaling 11.7 bWAR and 10.7 fWAR from 2021-23.

A fan favorite in St. Louis, Edman was a key piece of the Cardinals success over the past few seasons, but questions arose about his future following his offseason injury.
