The Kansas City Royals remain at .500 (4-4) heading into Easter Sunday after going 1-1 on Saturday in a doubleheader vs. the Milwaukee Brewers.

While the offense struggled in the first game, they absolutely exploded in game two.

RHP Luinder Avila made his MLB debut for Kansas City in game one, and Milwaukee immediately took advantage of the inexperience. The Royals’ bats, meanwhile, tallied eight hits and just two runs. Bobby Witt Jr. and Lane Thomas were the only Royals to score a run in game one.

Avila had mixed success on the day as he tallied four strikeouts and three walks in addition to the five earned runs. Overall, it led to him suffering his first loss of the year.

Game two, as stated before, was a different story.

Carter Jensen hit a two-run double in the second inning to get things started for Kansas City. The Brewers would come back with two runs of their own in the third via a Brice Turange RBI triple and an RBI double from Garrett Mitchell.

The sixth inning is when the Royals’ offense would explode for six more runs to break the tie. Salvador Perez hit a solo home run, followed by RBI’s from Isaac Collins, Kyle Isbel, Maikel Garcia, Vinnie Pasquantino and a wild pitch. On the pitching side of things, Seth Lugo took the mound for the Royals, and he did not disappoint. His final line ended at five innings pitched, two earned runs, seven strikeouts and two walks.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
