The Cardinals improved to 4-2 on the season with a 2-1 extra innings win over the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon. Starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore pitched 6 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 run (which a home run given up to Juan Soto), 2 strikeouts, and 1 walk. It was Liberatore’s 1st quality start of the season and the Cardinals 2nd quality start.

In the bottom 6th, third baseman Nolan Gorman got an RBI base hit (which scored JJ Wetherholt) and tied the game 1-1.

The game ended up going to extra innings. In the bottom 11th, shortstop Masyn Winn got a walk-off RBI base hit.

Reliever Gordon Graceffo picked up the win (1-0). The Cardinals currently have won back-to-back series to start the season. The Cardinals are also (2-0) in extra-inning games.

The Cardinals now will go on the road for their first time in 2026. They start a six-game road trip which will take them to Detroit (Friday-Sunday) and Washington (Monday-Wednesday).

On Friday, Michael McGreevy (0-0), 0.00 ERA, 6 innings, 5 strikeouts, 2 walks, and a whip of 0.33 vs Framber Valdez (0-0), 1.50 ERA, 6 innings, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, and a whip of 1.33 on Friday.

On Saturday, Dustin May (0-1), 13.50 ERA, 4 innings, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, and a whip of 2.75 vs Jack Flaherty (0-1), 4.15 ERA, 4.1 innings, 2 strikeouts, 4 walks, and a whip of 1.85.

And then on Sunday evening, Kyle Leahy (0-1), 7.20 ERA, 5 innings, 1 strikeout, 2 walks, and a whip of 2.00 vs Justin Verlander (0-1), 12.27 ERA, 3.2 innings, 1 strikeout, 2 walks, and a whip of 2.18.
