The St. Louis Cardinals roster got a massive bump on XXXX as they activated Masyn Winn off of the 10-day injured list after a three game rehab assignment. In a corresponding move, the team optioned outfield Michael Siani to Memphis.

Since winning two of three games against the Phillies and the Astors, the Cardinals offense has hit a bit of a rough patch recently. On their current road trip, St. Louis was handed a decisive four-game sweep at the hands of the Mets before taking a heartbreaking loss in the first game of a three-game set against the Braves. After leading 3-2 heading into the eighth inning, the Cardinals bullpen collapsed and allowed five runs, leading to an eventual 7-6 loss.

Masyn Winn got off to a slow start offensively this year, going hitless in his first 23 at-bats but rebounded nicely with a six-game hitting streak, including tallying two hits in four of those games. The temperature in Pittsburgh was in the low 30’s all series and Winn admitted to having back pain during the season. When the team returned home to face the Phillies on another chilly night, Winn was pulled from the game after the first inning after experiencing back spasms on defense. Winn was hopeful to avoid a stint on the IL but the team took the cautious approach and activated Nolan Gorman while allowing Winn to fully recover. During his short rehab stint, Winn hit two homers and drew two walks in his three games with Memphis. Upon his activation, Winn was back at his customary position at shortstop and will be hitting ninth for the Cardinals.

Heading back to Triple-A due to Winn’s return is defensive specialist Michael Siani. After starting the year as the fourth outfielder, the left-handed Siani only received 16 at-bats, tallying four singles and striking out six times. With his lack of offensive upside on a team that has struggled to score runs recently, his demotion leaves higher ceiling players like Thomas Saggese and Luken Baker with the major league club.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
