City SC’s playoff hopes came to an end as they were shut out by LAFC 3-0 Saturday Night at Energize Park. Denis Bouanga scored the opening goal for LAFC when he got the ball from a bad pass from Conrad Wallem. South Korean star Son Heung-min, who spent the past decade of his career with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League before migrating to LAFC during the mid-summer transfer, stretched his scoring streak to four matches with a goal from 12 yards to make it 2-0 before half-time.
Heung-Min scored again in the 60th minute with a right-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner with the assist from Artem Smolyakov. The loss means City SC is officially eliminated from the playoffs.
“When we started the season, we wanted to be much more successful,” City midfielder Marcel Hartel explained. “We didn’t make the playoffs last season, and we started the season to go for the playoffs, and we missed it again. It’s very disappointing for the club, for us as a team, and now we have to go in the last two games to do our best.”
The club will have two more games this season, playing Austin on October 4 and Salt Lake on October 18, for one last home stand of the year. The team
