Columbus Crew dominates St. Louis 2-1 In League Cup tournament.

St. Louis City SC fell to the Columbus Crew 2-1 In their first Leagues Cup Match. The match was delayed for nearly 4 hours due to Inclement weather, which proved challenging for City SC as they tried to stay focused in the locker room. Lucas Zelarayán opened the scoring for Columbus by converting a free kick in the 11th minute to give his team a 1-0. Then Chuco Hernández scored in the 29th minute to give Columbus a 2-0 on a penalty kick. City SC cut the lead to 2-1 off an own goal in the 84th minute when a corner kick from midfielder Indiana Vassilev deflected off of Russell-Rowe and into the goal.

“We got caught chasing the game and unfortunately, you know, came back in the game a little bit too late. But credit to the group that they stuck it out, they fought, they worked their way back in the game. We just have to now turn our focus to Thursday and regroup and get ready to go,” head coach Bradley Carnell said.

City SC will return to CityPark and host Liga MX Club América on July 27 at 9 pm to stay alive in the League Cup group stage. If City SC finishes in second place in their division in the Leagues Cup, they will move on to the knockout round. The League Cup plays through Aug. 19 with the winner will qualify directly to the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16.
