Patrick Mahomes has been a starting quarterback for six years. All six years he’s gone to the AFC Championship.
As for the Buffalo Bills, the two most dreaded words in their lore struck yet again over 20 years later… “wide right”.
Tyler Bass missed a game-tying 44-yard field goal, and the Kansas City Chiefs hung on to win 27-24 and head to Baltimore to face the Ravens in the AFC Championship game.
Overall, it was a back-and-forth effort between these two AFC heavyweights as they traded blows throughout the contest, particularly around halftime. However, Kansas City’s defense was able to hold firm down the stretch, forcing a turnover on downs, three-and-out and then holding the Bills to a (missed) field goal over their final three drives.
Despite being beat up and injury-riddled, the Chiefs defense locked down when it mattered most and proved they belonged.
Mahomes completed 17 of his 23 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Travis Kelce was on the receiving end of both of his touchdowns, while catching five of his six targets for 75 yards. Allen finished his night 26 of 39 for 186 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 72 yards and two scores.
