After three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, wide receiver Skyy Moore has been traded to the 49ers along with a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick. A split seemed guaranteed after Moore’s disappointing performance against the Seahawks last Friday, failing to record a catch on either of his two targets.
Moore was a second-round draft pick in 2022. In his first two seasons in the league, he caught 43 passes, returned 14 punts and started 11 games. He showed flashiness, promise, and hopefulness for a Chiefs’ offense that frequently shuffle their WR corps.
But in 2024, he appeared in just six games and caught zero passes on three targets. And in two preseason games with the Chiefs this month, Moore once again caught no passes on three targets.
After last week, it was clear the Chiefs were done with the Moore experiment.
Meanwhile, San Francisco is in desperate need of help at the WR position currently. With less than two weeks until the regular season begins, Brandon Aiyuk is out until Week 5 at the earliest, Demarcus Robinson is suspended until Week 4 unless the league changes its mind upon appeal. and Jauan Jennings has a calf injury and a contract grievance that could cost him the first few games of the season.
Quarterback Brock Purdy needs all the help he can get. And maybe Moore can be some of that help.
