Masyn Winn’s 2025 season is officially over.
The St. Louis Cardinals provided an unfortunate update on shortstop Masyn Winn late on Friday. Per Jeff Jones of the Belleview News-Democrat, Winn’s season is officially over, as his recovery from a meniscus tear has not been where the team has wanted it to be.
Winn was scratched from the lineup before Friday’s game against the rival Milwaukee Brewers, as he has been several times as he’s tried playing through the injury for quite some time.
With Winn being out for the season, Thomas Saggese will now handle the bulk of the shortstop duties for the rest of the ride.
Winn finishes the season batting .253 with nine home runs and a .673 OPS. Winn flashed the leather exceptionally well at shortstop this season, and will likely finish in the running for the NL Gold Glove award at the position. Winn accumulated a league-leading 22 outs above average at shortstop, per FanGraphs, and a 17 Fielding Run Value rating.
Saggese has hit .251 with one home run and a .618 OPS this season. At 72-76, and with the Cardinals all but out of postseason contention, Saggese will finish out the season while Winn continues to recover.
