The Chiefs are 0-2 for the first time since 2014. Starting QB Patrick Mahomes was a freshman at Texas Tech that season.
It’s also the first time Mahomes has lost three straight starts, a skid that began with the blowout defeat he and the Chiefs suffered in Super Bowl LIX against the Eagles in February.
The Chiefs were underdogs coming into the game and for good reason. They were without receivers Rice, who is suspended for six games, and Worthy, who suffered a shoulder injury in the season opener.
But Mahomes wouldn’t be deterred. He had 63 rushing yards just in the first half… more than Eagles running back Saquon Barkley… and the Chiefs’ defense held their ground against the explosive Eagles offense.
The Eagles kicked a field goal as the half expired to tie the game 10-10, and the Chiefs looked to come out swinging (not literally) in the second half.
But mistakes continued to plague Kansas City. In no small part to Travis Kelce’s bobbled pass that was intercepted by Andrew Mukuba, which ended up being a 14-point swing in the game. Kelce catches that and it’s a four-point Chiefs lead early in the fourth quarter. Instead, the Eagles capitalized on the turnover to go up 10 points.
Also, major kudos to rookie Josh Simmons, chasing down Mukuba to prevent a sure-fire pick-six.
Overall, it was another lackluster day for the Kansas City offense, and for an interesting difference-maker statistic… here you go:
