Blues goalie Jordan Binnington isn’t the only problem with this team, but he’s a big problem.
Binnington’s been flat-out terrible this season (.869 save percentage and minus-16 goals saved above expected in 28 appearances).
Believe it or not, his trade value is almost entirely reliant upon a heroic showing at the Olympics. If he plays well for Canada and the Blues enter full sell mode, interested parties will emerge.
The decline of his goaltending started years ago, but it’s getting noticeably worse. From 2021-2025, he had a 0.902 save percentage and a 2.99 goals against average. Meanwhile, in his first three NHL seasons, he had a 2.42 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.915%
Binnington has an 8-13-6 record this season.
Meanwhile, Joel Hofer is 11-10-2 with a 2.73 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 27 games this season. And while he took the loss against the Jets on Tuesday night, he still outperformed the recent performances of his goalie counterpart.
The 25-year old Hofer is well on his way to a career-high workload as he continues to hold down a slight majority of the starts over the last month, while the 2019 Stanley Cup hero goalie has an uncertain future ahead of him…
