It only took three minutes for San Diego FC to take the lead and never look back, as City SC lost its first road matchof the 2026 season, 2-0. Anders Dryer scored the first goal of the match to put his team up 1-0 after a beautiful one-touch assist from Marcus Ingvartsen. The first 15 minutes of the match were brutal for St. Louis, but the team had their moments when they settled down and even had some scoring chances that Simon Becher couldn’t finish after the ball crossed in front of the goal, which would have tied the score. Becher had another opportunity to tie the game before halftime but kicked the ball over the goal into the stands at Snapdragon Stadium.

San Diego put the game out of reach in the 54th minute when once again Marcus Ingvartsen was involved in another score, this time by putting the ball in the back of the net after an assist from Dryer to put the team up 2-0. There were a few good moments for City SC, but nowhere near enough against the team that finished on top of the Western Conference and were a game away from playing in the Major League Soccer Cup Final, only to lose to the Vancouver Whitecaps.

City SC goalie Roman Burki had 4 saves to keep the score as close as it was. Cedric Teuchert had some nice chances after he came on, but still no finishing from the team. San Diego dominated possession 65% to St. Louis’s 35%. The next game for St. Louis will be Saturday at 7:30 at home against the Seattle Sounders

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
