Former Blues player and current Thunderbirds coach Steve Ott will be sticking around a while longer.

The St. Louis Blues announced that they have signed Ott to a two-year contract extension as head coach of their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.

The contract runs through the 2027-28 season.

Last season was one of the best seasons for the Thunderbirds. Ott, 43, took over as Springfield’s head coach on Jan. 19, 2026, and led the team to a record of 19-13-2-0 to secure a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

“It’s a great opportunity for myself,” Ott said after being named to the position, “but not only that, I get to stay in an organization that I truly love. To help develop our young guys with the development side of coaching, it’s really exciting for myself. It’s a great opportunity.

A 15-year NHL veteran, Ott played in 848 NHL games from 2002-17 and had 288 points (109 goals, 179 assists) and 1,555 penalty minutes.

He played 122 total games for the Blues and later became an assistant coach for the team. As a coach, thee Blues went 350-244-74 (.588 points-percentage) in the regular season, capped off by them winning the Stanley Cup in the 2018-19 season, their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
